ARE YOU NEW TO WRESTLING?

POPULARITY:

Youth wrestling is a sport that is growing in popularity across the US. It is a great way for kids to exercise, learn discipline, and develop teamwork skills!

COST:

Registration for the wrestling season is $100 per wrester.

If a wrestler is looking to compete either individually or on a team, they will need a singlet. The association has these available for each wrestler. All we ask for it a $75 check made out to MAWA to be held until the singlet is returned. Once the singlet has been returned to the association, the check will be returned to the parent or destroyed.  Wrestling shoes are needed, and these can be purchased online or from a sporting goods store.

Protective equipment includes headgear and mouthguards which can also be purchased at a sporting goods store or online. The association does have a limited supply of used headgear available.

Additionally, those wrestlers who would like to participate in competitions will have an entrance fee at all individual tournaments. The association will cover all team registration fees.

LEVEL OF DIFFICULTY:

The level of difficulty depends on the level at which the wrestler is competing. A general rule of thumb is that the K-3 team is the easiest level of competitive play and the K-6 team is a harder level of competition.

At individual competitions, however, the hosting team usually takes into account the number of years a wrestler has been wrestling when they create their round-robin play, trying to keep new wrestlers and experienced wrestlers separate.

GLOBAL REACH:

Wrestling dates back thousands of years and is still practiced around the world. It is a popular sport at both the high school and collegiate levels and is one of the oldest Olympic sports to date!

PHYSICAL FITNESS:

Wrestling is an intense and demanding sport but is also extremely rewarding. It teaches discipline, self-control, and perseverance, as well as helps kids develop strength, speed, and agility.
